Makeba White-Chanay is a God-fearing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and businesswoman who stands firmly on HERPhilosophy of fostering persons in need. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of B1 Ventures and Holdings, Inc., a healthcare management firm headquartered in Pearl, Mississippi.

Through her non-profit organization, B1 Foundation, she and her staff specialize in providing quality care services for elderly and disabled persons, educational and scholarship offerings, and provide opportunities for unhoused populations.
In 2016, she formed B1 Nursing Care providing extensive home-care services and daily living assistance for elderly and disabled persons. Two years later, the Mississippi School of Health Services Careers was established to assist students with a career path that ensures success. The school offers certificate programs in the Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Phlebotomy, and CPR. The school also offers certificates and CEUs in COVID-19 and Community Healthcare Worker Training.

While her businesses have seen million-dollar successes, her goal includes expanding B1 Ventures and Holdings, Inc. to her neighboring states, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana. Makeba’s achievements include 2022 Best of Mississippi People’s Choice Award, 2021 Who’s Who of Mississippi Women, 2021 Transformation Academy Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Business Coaching, 2021 Harvard School of Business Certificate in Entrepreneurship Essentials, and 2019 Mississippi Top 50 Leading Women in Business.

As she reflects on her successes and many achievements, Makeba recalls those days growing up in Forest, Mississippi with her grandparents. Her grandfather was a farmer who contracted the poultry giant Tyson Foods. His success in entrepreneurship led to her desire to own her own business. Her dream was realized in 2011 when she began her home care service.

She attributes her success to her faith and love for God. The support from her family and especially her husband, Dr. Marcus A. Chanay has helped her remain focused and determined to enhance her businesses, which has led to a million-dollar success. Her ambitions and goals include increasing speaking engagements and creating a publishing arm for HERPhilosophy.

Her words in which she lives: “You don’t have to wait for someone to do something for you. You can start right where you are with what you have. If God says yes, then doors will open. All you need is one yes."
